Volunteer Trainee Program of IBAMA

The volunteer trainee program of Abrolhos National Marine Park aims to proportionate to the students – graduated and/or in a graduation process – the opportunity to know and to be in touch with the day-by-day of a Conservation Unit, improving their career. Throughout this trainee period, eco-tourism surveillance activities are developed, and also assessment, preservation projects, environmental education and research support.

The trainee remains two days in the Administrative Headquarter in the Park, in the city of Caravelas, and the rest of the period in Abrolhos Isle. Collective lodging is offered.

In the Park Headquarter, instructions and orientations are given about the trainee program in the Isle and the trainee has access to the available information in the library of the Park’s Visiting Center.

Throughout his stay in the Isle, the trainee delivers lectures about how the National Park Works and the different eco-systems and organisms found in the Unit area. Another developed activity is to follow visiting groups when they land on Siriba Island. In this track, questions about birds making nests in the Isle and insular environment are discussed.

The trainee must also do the task of helping the park-guards in the assessment and in the development of activities related to researches being developed in the National Park. Tasks of lodging maintenance must also be done.

The trainee program is normally accomplished in a whole month and the dedication period is total.
